Welcome to Mother Art STL

So, what is Mother Art STL?

Simple

I designed this collective to highlight the incredible creative power of Mothers in the St. Louis area. Leaning heavily on a personal mission to dismantle the notion that Mothers are somehow inherently not qualified to be kick ass Artists, I am eager to share stories of Mothers doing the damn thing when it comes to art-making. Some may do it as a full time career (awesome!) Some have a booming side business (woohoo!) Some are simply driven to create work for the sake of their sanity (beautiful!) Whatever the case may be, Mother Artists have incredible stories to tell that will inspire any Artist, any Mother, any human. 

2020 was a particularly crushing year for Mothers in a society where they are, essentially, the first-responders for their families. The whole world was expected to stay home sick and who takes care of us better than our Mothers, right? It was a call to duty that felt downright patriotic. Of course, we quickly realized we were operating on an island without support of any encouraging power-that-be. If we hadn’t already had feelings that were losing ourselves before 2020, we certainly discovered that the loss of “self” is real and alive when it comes to Motherhood. It’s downright expected!  Many Mothers, myself included, lost their jobs. Many Mothers voluntarily left their positions because the burden of caring for a family during a pandemic was too much to bear. Mother Art believes that without a purpose outside of her family, Mothers crumble. By showcasing every day Mothers and their varying creative endeavors, we hope to inspire you to make time for that part of your soul that wants more. 

So, are you a Mother Artist? Do you know Mother Artists? Not certain you know what constitutes a Mother Artist? It is our supreme goal to feature Mothers at all “levels” (more on “good” vs “bad” art in future posts but SPOILER, it’s not a thing) who are exploring the big, beautiful world of art-making.
